What’s New in 2022
The future is looking bright with these properties opening soon

January 20, 2022

As you look to the future of travel, rest assured that things are looking bright.  There is a wealth of incredible new and reimagined hotel destinations opening up around the world.  I’ve highlighted some of my personal picks to satiate your wanderlust and inspire your next vacation.

LAKE COMO, Italy

Iconic design. Unforgettable vistas. Legendary boat rides. These images are conjured in travelers’ minds when they think of Lake Como. So when a new property unveils itself to lucky guests, the news makes waves. I am so thrilled for my clients to experience Passalacqua. This reimagined villa turned hotel holds only 24 keys…talk about serene environment!

The De Santis family is the creative force behind Passalcqua. Paolo, Antonella, and Valentina De Santis are deeply rooted in the Lake Como region. They are the same hoteliers that delivered the famed Grand Hotel Tremezzo. Passalcqua is described beautifully by our friends at Querido:

This historic estate has hosted some of the world’s most prominent historical figures, from Napoleon Bonaparte to Bellini and Winston Churchill. Taking inspiration from the past, Passalacqua provides its guests with the warmest hospitality, creating a place where guests can unwind and appreciate the “simple” things. From fresh-cut flowers upon arrival to the open kitchen providing personalized options for all guests, all while enjoying the stunning views of Lake Como.

Slated to open in Summer 2022.

BRIXEN, Italy

Okay, there is one hotel on my list that is not fresh out the gate! However, I’m pretty certain this one may not be on your radar. Let’s change that, immediately.

Forestis is a gem nestled in the UNESCO Dolomites Mountains. This region has some incredibly luxurious properties. What makes Forestis stand out is the hotel’s dedication to sustainability practices without compromising design and service. The attention to sustainability is shown throughout the property and programs. They connect their guests with local artisans and makers. Additionally, their culinary program is rooted in local and seasonal offerings and the physical infrastructure of the hotel. Forestis runs on 100% renewable energy.

This property is also a member of SLH’s Considerate Collection which curates incredible properties that have adapted considerable sustainable practices.

NAPA VALLEY, California

In Napa Valley, the options for a luxury traveler are bountiful. Though, I always view the Auberge properties as the original pioneers. They are, after all, the ones that brought us Auberge du Soleil and Solage – the cornerstone of luxurious experiences in the Valley. This year they will bring us Stanly Ranch.

A mix of exquisitely designed suites and individual cottages pepper the lush 700 acre private working ranch. HaleHouse is the property’s intoxicating wellness hub where there is a treatment or activity for everyone. I am most excited about their partnership with Vintage Aircraft Co. Through this exclusive partnerships guests will be able to soar in a WWII vintage over vineyards and Mayacamas Mountains. Now that is a great topic over wine and charcuterie!

Unwind in effortless luxury as seen here – the washing basins in the Arbor Cottage.

TIPPERARY, Ireland

I believe there will be a sustained wave of excitement for travel across Europe in summer and late 2022. I also believe a lot of that interest will be direct towards the UK & Ireland. That is where my next pick is located.

Ireland’s biggest hotel opening in years is finally taking place this spring. Located in the heart of town with views to the Rock of Cashel and glorious Tipperary countryside.

A delicate balance of 42 rooms and suites are on property. It is a beautiful option for private events and celebrations as well.  We love this beautiful description from our friends at Celebrated:

Built in 1732, it became one of the country’s most notable country house hotels in the 1960s and 1970’s during which they welcomed notable guests that included Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Jackie Kennedy, and Ronald Reagan. New owners purchased the property in 2016 and are now in the midst of a dramatic and sensitive refurbishment program, creating what will be one of Ireland’s finest hotels. With its unique location, guests will get the best of both worlds: the benefits of being in the center of one of our favorite towns, while also being in the midst of beautiful countryside! The hotel will have a significant focus on the food and beverage experience as they are surrounded by many of Ireland’s most famous food artisans (Cashel Blue, anyone?!?). Cashel is a wonderful base to explore this more off-the-beaten-path region that features many of Ireland’s most authentic riches.

MADRID, Spain

Last, but certainly not least, is The Edition Madrid. Here in Los Angeles we are lucky enough to experience The Edition experience with their West Hollywood outpost. Superior hospitality, delicious design and always “a vibe” – The Edition properties never disappoint.

The Madrid property will boast nearly 200 guest rooms. It is perfectly situated within walking distance to the Golden Triangle of Art.  I look forward to sharing more about this property when it opens late Spring 2022.
