It is never, ever too early to chat about winter travel for late 2022 and beyond. I have the perfect luxury destination for you this winter. A destination that balances luxurious accommodations, activities for the whole family and incredible food. One that for most of the US is a simple single flight away.
I recently traveled with my husband and daughter to the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita. Over a span of 4 nights / 5 days, we covered a lot of ground at a leisurely pace. Here is an overview of what we experienced.
SIGNATURE HOSPITALITY
Upon arrival at the resort we had our temperatures checked at the non-invasive Covid-19 welcome area (outside near the valet) before being ushered into the stunning open air lobby. Each guest is treated to a welcome beverage (those 21 and older have a splash of tequila in theirs, of course)! Then, you’re guided by a golf cart to your room. Depending on what you want to accomplish during your stay, I can make recommendations on which part of the property would be best suited for you. With nearly 300 acres +, the resort is sprawling. Yet each area has its own set of offerings which we can review together.
The concierge team at this property is on another level. They know the surrounding area like the back of their hand which was helpful when we wanted to explore off property. My piece of advice is to work with them early and often as reservations both on and off the property book up relatively quickly!
WATER ADVENTURES
There are two distinct beaches at this property along with two pools and one delightful lazy river. We spent a lot of time at the Nuna Pool which is kid-friendly and serves up incredible views of the Pacific. Complimentary popsicles and ice cream is served daily in the late afternoons.
For a more chill vibe, I loved Tamai. Which makes sense as it is for adults only. The area has ample cabanas to rent, a covered patio adjacent to the bar, hammocks and great music. For parents with kids old enough for Kids For All Seasons (ages 5-12) or teens that can manage themselves, this is an incredible escape.
Their two beaches are distinctly different as well. Las Cuevas Beach is home to the The Shack bar, a stand for fresh coconut drinks, lots of sunshine and opportunity for nearby snorkeling, etc. On the other side of the property is the shadier Las Manzanillas Beach. Home to the delicious Salad Shack and the Instagram worth swinging chair pods, we loved relaxing here and wading into the cool water as the temperatures heated up. Great viewing of migrating humpback whales from this beach as well!
We tended to pop over to the Lazy River around 3 each day for a cocktail and fun float around the river. Complimentary ice cream delivered to guests throughout the afternoon here as well.
Ice Cream time at the Lazy River Giant swing beds at Las Manzanillas Beach. Beautiful capture of the Nuna Pool overlooking the Pacific
LUXURY ACCOMMODATIONS
So, the property is expansive which means you have lots of options! I toured several room types and one of the 5-bedroom villas on property. We personally stayed in one of the Ocean casitas and were very comfortable and loved the views! The pull out couch was a great option for my young daughter. I would say this type of room could comfortably sleep 4 guests max (2 adults, 2 kids) with the children both being under the age of 8. Kids older may want their own bed.
I also LOVE Oceanfront Casitas – absolutely ideal for honeymooners or couples traveling without children. Pictured below is an Oceanfront Casita with a plunge pool. There are a few connecting room options that could be considered for larger families as well. A tip I know families with a few kids may appreciate – the Garden Casitas are very well positioned near the lazy river, Kids Club and Container (for teens).
For a bit more privacy and well suited for larger groups the property does have a few villas available and sometimes, depending on the season, some of their residences are available on a rental basis. Complimentary golf carts come with these options as they are a bit further away from the main “hubs” of the resort.
View from one of the Oceanfront plunge pools – a real breathtaking location. A look at Cielo, one of the 5 bedroom Villas on property. Remarkable views, sunrise to sunset. Casita balcony – great for morning breakfast or late night in-room margarita deliveries.
SUSTAINABILITY CONSIDERATIONS
Across the Four Season brand they have taken strides towards more sustainable stays for their guests including the option for linen changes daily and more in-room adaptations. At this particular property there is a strong emphasis on education, especially for the smaller guests and nothing is more popular than the baby sea turtle release. This typically happens Dec – March!
We were fortunate enough to go on a private whale watching tour. The private boat usually can be met at Las Cuevas Beach but due to conditions we actually met our captain down the road a bit at the Sea Breeze Beach Club at St. Regis. This is an absolute must do experience if you are in the region December – February. We easily saw 30 active humpback whales, dolphins, numerous bird species, massive sea turtles and “flying” mantas. It was a highlight for our family and my daughter learned a ton.
They are also introducing a new concept in late 2022 which you can read about here. It will be an adults only lodging area with a keen focus on wellness and sustainability.
